Short Description
Original text by: Remo Teater Madura
Nisa Ramadani delves into the interplay between the Madurese language and Indonesian, examining them as both sounds and symbols that convey meaning. This performance takes the form of a collective effort to explore and compile a glossary rooted in local knowledge and experiences, particularly focusing on finding concepts or terms in Madurese that resonate with contemporary ideas and thoughts. Words like "gallery," "contemporary," and "discourse" are examples of terms that may not have direct equivalents in Madurese but could be reimagined through the lens of local wisdom and understanding.
Through this exploration, the performance reflects an effort to bridge contemporary discourse with Madurese perspectives, fostering dialogue that honors the richness and depth of the Madurese language while engaging with broader, modern contexts.
Special thanks to Nisa Ramadani, the collaborating community members of Lembana, and fellow Madurese speakers in Java (Tapal Kuda). Gratitude also to Kolektif Arungkala for facilitating the post-performance discussion.
